What is Dunamis?

Dunamis is one of four Greek terms for “power” in the New Testament. Dunamis is power related to the Holy Spirit as found in Acts 1:8 and Colossians 1:11. The words dynamite and dynamo come from Dunamis.

This worship service is uniquely designed to provide a different atmosphere in a familiar space. The service takes place in the sanctuary, but is very different from the services on Sunday mornings. Dunamis uses as many means and methods as possible to get the gospel message across to those who attend. Some of the music can be called “Contemporary Christian,” but hymns are used too. And some secular music and videos are used to help many grasp God’s message. It’s a comfortable experience where all are inspired and challenged to become better in Christ.

This service carries no shades or signs of denominations, for many are represented in each service. The sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism are not celebrated during the service. Even those who would like to become members of the Cookeville Cumberland Presbyterian Church have to attend one of the Sunday morning services to do so. But opportunities for those who want to give their lives to Christ or who want to rededicate their lives to Christ are always offered.

Our regular ministers for this service are Perryn Rice and Charles McCaskey. Other worship leaders include Sandra Robbins as pianist with Perryn Rice, Richard and Ethan Morgan leading the praise music. Mitch Teeters serves as our technical director. In addition, we are often blessed by other guest speakers and musicians. Child care is provided for children ages five and under. Worshippers are encouraged to wear comfortable or casual clothes.

Every Wednesday at 6:45 PM in the sanctuary is Dunamis! Come join us!
