Opportunities for Service
No church can function without volunteers who assist with the many tasks that need to be done in and around the church building. There are many opportunities to serve on a regular, occasional, or even one-time basis – whether it be preparing the communion elements, serving as an usher, changing the church sign information, serving as a teacher with Vacation Bible School or Sunday School, helping with costumes for drama productions, or picking up bulletins that are left in the pews. Many tasks may seem small, but they play a big part in making the church run smoothly and efficiently.
Our church is blessed with several individuals who volunteer in the following capacities, but we have other weekly opportunities available as well – a few of which are listed below. We are ALWAYS in need of volunteers. If you are willing to “lend a hand”, please call the church office and we will be delighted to help you find a place where you can serve.

Elders on Duty: Church elders are available before and after each church service to greet members and visitors and to assist with any questions.

Acolytes: Acolytes participate in the worship service by lighting and extinguishing the altar candles. The lighting of the altar candles in the worship service is a symbol of Jesus’ coming into the presence of the worshiping community. Before the extinguishing of the last altar candle, the acolytes relight their "candlelighter" and then process out with the ministers. This symbolizes that Jesus Christ is for all people everywhere. It also symbolizes the light of Jesus Christ going out into the world where believers are called to serve. Children in grades 3-6 and/or who are mature enough to handle the responsibilities are encouraged to serve as acolytes. For further information, contact Tracy Sparks (261-1029).

Greeters: Greeters are available at the front doors of the church from 9:45 – 10:45 on Sunday mornings to welcome members and especially visitors to assist them in finding a Sunday School class and informing them of worship service times. If you would like to volunteer as a greeter, please contact the church office.

Nursery Volunteers: Joyce Keller and Jessica Rector work in our church nursery along with volunteers to provide care for children ages five and under during regular and special church services. If you love caring for children, we invite you to help out as a nursery volunteer. If you are interested, please contact Cindy Verble (267-2299) or the church office.

Sound System Operators: Sound system operators are responsible for the sound system during regular and special church services. Eldon Burgess, Donnie Cox, Alec Dickinson, Mark McKinley, and Mitch Teeters currently perform this task on a rotating basis, but there is always a need for additional sound operators. If you are interested in training to operate our sound system, please contact the church office.
Flower Calendar: There may be a special date when you would like to provide flowers in honor or in memory of someone. It is a wonderful way to celebrate an event or a life, present and gone home. If you would like to provide flowers for the altar, the “Flower Calendar” sign up list is located in the Narthex of the church where you can reserve the Sunday of your choice. Carol Burgess will contact you for the information for the bulletin.
In addition, lilies and poinsettias are placed on the altar at Easter and Christmas. A special appeal will be made at those times of the year giving you the opportunity to provide a plant in honor or memory of someone.
