St. Francis of Assissi once said, “Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” Preaching is one means of presenting the gospel, but many times it can be misunderstood. Jesus didn’t just use words to tell the world of God’s love - He also provided for the physical and spiritual needs of those around him and He has called us to do the same. Meeting human need is essential to sharing God’s love. Evangelism and outreach is a vital part of a church that is alive and growing. St. Francis also advised us to “Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” Each of us can be a part of doing the impossible!
Turkey Project: Each year the youth of our church prepare food boxes and deliver them to area families at Thanksgiving. The boxes are filled with various food items of boxed and canned foods for a Thanksgiving dinner along with a turkey. Your donation of $10 will provide a turkey for one of these boxes and/or you can bring any of the following for use in putting together a turkey dinner:
Green Beans - Canned Corn - Cranberry Sauce - Mashed Potatoes - Sweet Potatoes - Mac & Cheese Turkey Gravy – Stuffing - Sugar - Peanut Butter – Jelly - Flour - Saltine crackers - Other non-perishables You can begin bringing in your donations on Sunday, October 30th. Donation boxes will be available in the Fellowship Hall. The youth will prepare the Thanksgiving boxes on Sunday, November 20, with delivery the following day.
Soles4Souls: This is an ongoing outreach program whose purpose is to supply shoes for those in need all over the world. So far our church has collected over 1,000 pairs. If you wish to donate your “gently used” shoes for this outreach, collection boxes are located outside the main church office and in the fellowship hall for delivery to the Nashville based organization.
Mission Trips: Members of the congregation participate in mission trips periodically throughout the year. Past mission trips have included outreaches to South Dakota to work with the Lakota Sioux Indians (the poorest area in the United States), to Florida to help build a church for Hispanics, several trips to Mississippi to help rebuild after the hurricanes there, and working in Cookeville on Habitat for Humanity Houses. Going beyond the bounds of the local church is important in reaching out to the world we live in. In 2012 we will plan mission trips to work both at home and away from home in helping those in need. Details about future missions will be provided on this web page as trips are planned and the information becomes available.
