“O come, let us sing to the Lord. Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!” Psalm 95:1
The music ministry of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church plays a vital role in the worship life of its members. We are blest with a talented and dedicated music staff who provide leadership for our ministry of music. Approximately 75 people of varying ages share their talents as members of one or more of our choirs. We enjoy presenting special services and programs throughout the year, but the primary focus of our music ministry is the preparation of music to enhance the weekly worship services of our church.
Adults have the opportunity to sing in our Sanctuary Choir, ring with one of our two handbell choirs, or sing with a women’s or men’s ensemble. Additionally, several of our vocalists and instrumentalists provide solos for worship from time to time.
Opportunities for children to make a joyful noise begin during their pre-school years when they get together during the Sunday School hour each week to sing with Mr. Jim. Graded choirs are provided for children ages 3 through the fourth grade. Junior and senior high girls are invited to sing with our Girls Ensemble which rehearses weekly.
Our church’s music ministry has become well known in the area through the special services and programs we offer throughout the year. This is especially true of our Maundy Thursday Service, Christmas Eve Communion Service, and the annual ecumenical Patriotic Service we present each summer near July 4th. All of these services are offered at times that enable persons from the community at large to attend.
Anyone interested in making music for the glory of God is welcome to join us!
