Cumberland Presbyterian Nursery School

The Cumberland Presbyterian Nursery School is located at 565 East 10th Street in Cookeville, TN as part of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The daycare facility opened in 1967 as a way to serve the childcare needs of families in the community. Children ranging in age from six weeks to 5 years old are eligible for admission. When school is dismissed (during the summer and Fall/Spring breaks), care is offered for children up to age 12. In addition, CPNS provides parents with a variety of educational materials in the form of pamphlets, flyers, magazines, DVDs and books from our lending library.

CPNS is a Christian-based facility. Children in our center engage in bible instruction through age-appropriate stories, songs and activities and are able to do this in the comfort of their own classrooms. We are excited about introducing the A Beka Christian-based curriculum for two-, three- and four-year olds.

CPNS participates in the Tennessee Star Quality Rating program which holds childcare to a high standard. Our school is currently rated a 3-star center, the program’s highest possible rating. Each star demonstrates that the school has gone above and beyond the state’s base requirements in family service, staff training, child care and development, program assessment and community outreach. The staff continually looks for new ways to improve standard of care and standing in the community.

Children are provided with a variety of tools, materials, activities and experiences from which to choose throughout each day. These components enable them to learn and develop skills necessary for healthy growth. Teachers guide their students in exploring the world around them by observing their ability to work and play on individual and interactive bases.

Our PTCA meets quarterly and provides parents the opportunity to take part in curriculum planning, voice opinions on policies and procedures, and participate in peer networking. Each meeting hosts an educational forum that is chosen by the parents and families of CPNS.
