Christy Huddleston is the director of our Hallelujah Handbell choir. Christy grew up in Lebanon, TN, attended Tennessee Tech, and received her B.S. in Medical Technology in 1977. While she thoroughly enjoyed her work in the medical field, Christy’s passion has always been music. As her parents were both church musicians, Christy has been actively involved in church music since her junior high years when she and her mother played organ/piano duets almost every Sunday morning for church services. She also accompanied her junior high and high school choral ensembles. She served as full-time pianist and/or organist and children’s choir director in churches in Lebanon and Manchester, TN, before moving to Starkville, MS, in 1991 where she again became immediately involved in church music ministry. She also accompanied several voice students, the choral ensembles in two high schools, and played for about 25 musical theater productions in the high schools and at Mississippi State University. In addition, Christy worked as the executive assistant to Rev. Cecil Williamson, a United Methodist pastor appointed through the Mississippi conference as a full-time evangelist who traveled the world in church planting and evangelism. One of her greatest “musical” joys was organizing and directing handbell choirs in two churches while living in Starkville.
Christy got her first taste of ringing handbells about 25 years ago. Being one who is always looking for a challenge and new ways to witness and minister through music, solo ringing became one of her favorite musical hobbies about 10 years ago. She enjoys sharing her love of music with churches and other community groups. In addition to ringing bells, Christy serves as substitute pianist/organist when needed. She and her husband, David, have two married sons and one granddaughter.
