Richard was called to serve as the Associate Minister to the Young at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 2010. He received a B.S. degree in High School Education from Athens State College in Alabama and graduated from Memphis Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. He and his wife Heather have three children and one granddaughter.
Richard enjoys working with young people. Camps and retreats are a favorite part of his ministry. “So many great things can happen in the lives of young people when they get away from their comfort zones and let God speak to them.” Although Richard enjoyed math and science in school, he has grown to love and appreciate history, especially the history associated with Christianity. “History of the church reminds me that we all fall down and we need to just get up and keep on serving God and be faithful.”
Another passion that Richard has is music. Many times at camp he has served in leading music for worship. “I love the hymns but I really enjoy the contemporary stuff. Working with young people, I see that music speaks to them very easily.”
